Ryan sings, "I'm Glad There Is You" to Maria

Just posting this now (been kinda busy). I surprised Maria at a little club in Walnut Creek and sang this song to her for her birthday. I wasn't feeling to well at the time (another long story), but she enjoyed it and I did the best I could considering I was actually sick at the time. Two martinis sure helped!

Rolling Head-On Into Thanksgiving...

Jeez, just four more days to Thanksgiving...2010 has gone by very FAST! It's a cold, wet Sunday morning — just finished a telephone briefing for the airport and wanted to write a quick blog post.

Maria is still homeschooling Brandon and Nicholas. Our family has now homeschooled their children the longest in this city's ENCORE Homeschooling Program (part of the Unified School District)—13 years to be exact! I think Maria wants to slowly but surely transition the boys into Public School like the other two, but they don't really have any interest to go. Why would you when you can wake up at 9 or 10 and do your reading and lessons anytime throughout the day and your Mom was home with you always? It really is great for the children.

As for the two teenagers, Alexandra is a Senior and driving her 1984 Ford Mustang Convertible ALLOVER the place. Talk about growing up fast, she starts college next year and still maintains a GREAT job teaching dance and gymnastics. She's a natural teacher and little kids LOVE her.

Cameron maintains a very high GPA, takes Advance Placement Chemistry as a Sophomore, and is No. 3 on the varsity tennis team (and rising fast). He just started a three-month intense fitness program for athletes. He is going to be in TIP-TOP shape soon and his coach is expecting to see some explosive lateral movement side-to-side on the court. He is very much like his Uncle Alex—a naturally-gifted athlete.

Maria is still working part-time, even though her hours often flex to near full-time!!! We're not complaining given THIS economy. We still have fun and that's important.

As for me, I'm still running all training at SFO International Airport (from pat downs to X-ray). We have the BEST screeners...try some of the other airports and tell me if you don't agree! After all this time, I STILL love the work and the people I get to work with...what's not to like about that!

And if you haven't checked out my website, NerdBoyTV, go visit it NOW ;-) I also have a channel on YouTube. I'm very proud that I've maintained the NerdBoyTV show for almost four years now. It's also a FREE podcast on iTunes.

Hope you all had a terrific 2010! Have fun and be safe this holiday season.

Commuting to work

I look real excited on my way to work, huh? LOL This is me riding into work on BART. Don't feel sorry for me — I'm totally WiFi "wired" with mp3s blasting and the Internet roaring at blazing speeds. ;-) Figures, huh?

Date Night at Yoshi's with Brian McKnight

Date night! Maria took BART into the city and met me at SFO Airport. We took off to Yoshi's San Francisco on Fillmore and had a TERRIFIC sushi dinner and a 3-dessert sampler (I also had the sake sampler!!!). Then we saw Brian McKnight in the theater from the third row about 5 feet away; he was solo, just him and his piano/guitar for 90 minutes! WOW! What a show—and as you can see, we met him afterward. What a wonderful evening!

And below is a clip I found on YouTube of Brian performing Stevie Wonder's "Overjoyed" that he also sang at Yoshi's that night...fantastic!

Blogging at a McDonalds in the Mall...

It's a rainy Sunday afternoon...Maria and Cameron wanted to go to the mall. Ah, but I came prepared. With netbook, the Nook, a cellphone, and Verizon Wireless modem in hand, I've settled down comfortably here at a McDonald's here at Sun Valley and taking a moment to blog ;-)

Just saw that Bode Miller finally won a gold metal...will definitely have to watch the replay on NBC later tonight. I read a "movie spoiler" about Leonardo DeCaprio's new movie, "Shutter Island." Wow, what a surprise ending (hehehe).

Hope you're all staying dry...I'm gonna log into Slingbox now and watch the Olympics...I know, I'm SUCH a techie nerd! LOL

AUDIOBLOG: Talking about Disneyland

Recorded from the car, I talk about our family's recent trip to Disneyland and Legoland this past weekend.

Disneyland at last!

Well, as you can see, The Yee Family FINALLY made it to Disneyland ;-)

It's amazing how small The Matterhorn really looks 40 years after I first saw it...I remember it being gigantic as our family approached Anaheim in our station wagon on I-5. NOW, you can't even see the park that's now surrounded by parking structures and other buildings.

But, it sure hasn't lost it's magical appeal. The kids LOVED the park. We were there from 9AM when they opened to arround 8PM after getting too wet on Splash Mountain to stay in the cold. Tomorrow, we're braving California Adventure...and since we've got a Hopper Pass, I'll likely sneak back into Disneyland one last time. Brandon and I have already been on The Matterhorn several times.

We're having a blast!

Landing in Legoland

Isn't this amazing? Mount Rushmore is totally made up of Lego pieces...

The Yee Boys landed in Legoland today! Brandon and Nicholas, especially, have been looking forward to this part of the trip. We took off to Carlsbad after leaving Maria, Alexandra, and Reggie in San Diego. Alex had a dance competition with those tough Southern California girl dancers who can afford to be choreographed by famous L.A. dancers (hehehe). Well, it's all in good fun anyway, right?

Well, the competitive side of me says, "Go beat 'em, Alexandra!" LOL!!!

And the good news, Alex placed fourth in the competitive solo division...YAY, Alex!

Back at Legoland, the boys and I were enjoying the rides and the $4 hot dogs (groan). If you go to YeePhotos.com, you can see pictures of some of the facinating structures (The Eifel Tower, New York City, The Golden Gate Bridge, etc.) made out of Lego pieces...truly amazing.

And still to come, Disneyland tomorrow!

Happy New Year's Eve!!!

Recorded this in the car driving to work...wishing you a very Happy New Year later tonight!

Driving to work...running late!

This audioblog was recorded on my way to work after having breakfast with my Dad at McDonald's ;-)

Ryan audioblogs from the car

Just a quick message from me while driving in the car; don't worry, I'm using hands-free (grin).

Totally Wired at the Mall

Greetings from the mall two days after Christmas...what a ZOO!!!

I'm not really into shopping here today, but my kids wanted to use some of their gift cards...so here we are.

Ah, but not to worry, I am TOTALLY wired and prepared for the long haul: 1) Typing this blog entry on my new Acer Aspire One netbook (with built-in broadband Internet access), 2) Blasting music on my iPod Classic that is streaming wirelessly to my MOTOROKR S9 B luetooth headset, and 3) Ready for calls with my Blackberry Curve. LOL

As you can see from the picture, I'm enjoying myself and totally tuning this mall world out. I've already given a dirty look to some little kids who were jumping around my netbook bothering me with no parental supervision (hehehe)...yeah, I know, what a Grinch grouch (grin).

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season...I'm having a blast!

A Historic Week Indeed!

Whatta week, huh? No matter how you voted last Tuesday, you must admit that we've entered a historical moment in time with our first African-American President, Barak Obama. I taped the news coverage from 5 PM to 11 PM that night and captured the moment Katie Curic announced that California, Oregon, and Washington threw Obama over the top to 290 or so delegates. WOW, whatta moment ;-)

In other news, I'm still broadcasting my show, NerdBoyTV. I found a really cool pen that records everything it hears and links it to the words you write down in the accompanying notebook. Checkout the show at NerdBoyTV.com. Be sure to subscribe to the broadcast while you're at it...gracias!

Maria's been working pretty hard lately, so we've had to coordinate our schedules a little bit better to make sure one of us is around the house. It's been a challenge, but having that second income after 13 or so years on one is VERY nice! ;-)

Can you believe that Thanksgiving's already here and Christmas is only weeks away at this point? Unbelievable...this year flew by in a flash. Hope you're all doing well and come back to RyanYee.net again soon. Post a comment here too if you'd like to...see ya.

P.S. This picture was taken about 5 minutes ago !
